Refer to your car's service manual to find out how often its oil should be changed – the interval varies from model to model.
For example, the oil can be replaced every 10,000 to 30,000 km, or every 12 to 24 months, depending on manufacturer's recommendations.

A number of criteria need to be taken into account when deciding how often it should be replaced:

  • Date first registered
  • Total distance driven since date first registered
  • Distance driven since last service
  • Engine type
  • Driving style

Some vehicle models tell you how far you can drive before you next have to change the oil via a maintenance counter on your dashboard.
Because this information is calculated in real time, it will vary depending on how far you have driven.
